Liquorice Rolling Papers were introduced in the early 1980’s by the rolling paper brand Rizla. The Liquorice itself comes from the root of a plant called Glycyrrhiza glabra, it takes around 2-3 years before you can harvest the root. To extract the liquorice from the root it is boiled in water, after some time the water then evaporates, leaving the liquorice flavouring that is then applied to the paper. Liquorice is widely used in tobacco products throughout the world as well as in sweets and for flavouring food. To produce liquorice paper the paper is coated in the liquorice flavouring, which gives the paper a rich dark colour and that distinctive taste.
